MGMT 446 Cross-Cultural Management

This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of cross-cultural management issues and related best practices. Students will expand their  leadership style to include their own cultural norms, how this affects their communication, and how to ensure that their communication is cross-culturally effective. Students will learn the theoretical foundations of cultural differences in the workforce and explore how this knowledge should inform management in organizations. Ultimately it aims to better prepare students to become successful cross-cultural leaders.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify key theories and concepts of cross-cultural management
2. Evaluate the role and function of culture on primary business practices including cross-cultural communication, leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making, trust building, and scheduling
3. Generate strategies for working with individuals from different national cultures
4. Demonstrate cross cultural awareness and sensitivity not only by explaining your own cultural values and practices, but also by recognizing and discussing others’ distinct cultural values and practices
5. Demonstrate a global mindset that will be conducive to successful leadership in multi-cultural work settings
