MEDU 202 Responsive Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers

This course takes an in-depth look at planning and implementation of a responsive curriculum for infants and toddlers. This course will introduce students to the basic concepts of infant-toddler development related to the influence of curriculum planning and their role in curriculum planning and implementation. Students will examine: the components of a curriculum framework and connection to the individualized; approach to curriculum planning; the steps of the curricular planning cycle and the role of team planning; the role of routine care practices in the curriculum planning cycle; various theories regarding play and their impact on development and learning; the development of goals, objectives, and experiences; characteristics and approaches used to support infant and toddler development; the impact of materials and the environment on curriculum; and how transitions relate to individualization and curriculum planning. Throughout this course, students will be observing and documenting development of an infant or toddler through video as well as on their own at a site, applying their observations to various assignments and discussion board questions.
