ACCT 480 Legal Aspects of Accounting, Auditing and Finance

Fall Semester only. Introduces accounting and other business students to the most important business/legal issues. Covers various legally-intensive topics in which Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) come into play, frequently involving federal and state law requirements. The ongoing convergence of GAAP and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is also be discussed. Other major subject areas examined include state laws and general contract laws impacting companies' financial structure and transactions, such as companies' securing debt financing, issuing shares of stock and declaring dividends.
