TRS 435MJ Character and Commandments

The course introduces students to the Catholic tradition of moral reflection. It surveys and integrates the various sources of such moral reflection (Scripture, Tradition, philosophical theories of ethics, social-scientific observations of experience), introduces them to core concepts from those sources (including teleology, natural law, virtue, option for the poor, human dignity, and common good), and explains the historical development of Catholic thought, especially during and after Vatican II. In the course of this study, students will also learn about critical resources for ethical reflection from outside the Catholic tradition.
