SPAN 228 Afro-Hispanic Literature and Culture
This course provides an examination of the major contributions, particularly in literature and other media (music, film, visual arts, among others), of Afro-Hispanic culture in the Americas from colonial times to the present. By studying texts produced by Afro-Hispanic and non Afro-Hispanic authors, we will also explore how race and ethnicity are constructed, deconstructed or appropriated, and how this
cultural corpus fit within our current Latin American cultural canon and identity.
This course will be taught in English. Proposed for the Foundations in Lit requirement.
