MUS 586A Latin American Music: Regional Studies
Historical survey and important trends in the music of a particular region. Lecture format. Possible topics include the music of Mexico; of Brazil and Rio de La Plata; of the Andes, of Venezuela, Central America, and the Caribbean. Includes examples from concert, popular, and folk traditions. Satisfies a concentration requirement for graduate students pursuing a concentration in Latin American music, and serves as a music history elective for other graduate students and qualified undergraduate students. Offered on a rotational basis. May be repeated for credit.
