MUS 547W Gregorian Chant Practicum I
Study of Gregorian chant notation and modality; performance practice and conducting; sight-reading with tonic sol-fa syllables; rhythmic interpretation according to the principles of Dom Andre Mocquereau, O.S.B., author and founder of the Solesmes Method; repertory of liturgical chants. Oral and written examinations required. Students who have not completed 544 must demonstrate basic music reading skills. Offered on a rotational basis. Prerequisites: basic music-reading skills or successful completion of 543A (formerly SMUS 544).
