DA 545 Introduction to Data Mining

This is an introductory course on data mining. It introduces the basic concepts, principles, methods, implementation techniques, and applications of data mining, with a focus on the knowledge/pattern discovery and cluster analysis. The courses will cover the following topics: data cleaning and pre-processing, extracting useful knowledge or patterns from raw data, model-based clustering via mixture of Gaussians, spectral clustering, and text mining.
