Absence Policy
UTPB recognizes that students may occasionally miss classes due to valid reasons such as religious observances, university-sponsored events, or personal emergencies. The university outlines the following types of excused absences:
- Religious Holy Days: Students are permitted to miss class for the observance of religious holy days. They must notify instructors in advance and will be allowed to make up missed work within a reasonable time.
- University-Authorized Activities: Absences due to official university events (e.g., athletics, academic competitions) are excused. Students must inform instructors ahead of time and arrange to complete any missed assignments or exams.
- Other Absences: Instructors may use their discretion to excuse absences due to illness, family emergencies, or other personal matters. Students are encouraged to communicate promptly and provide documentation when appropriate.
In all cases, it is the student’s responsibility to notify instructors in advance (when possible), request make-up work, and complete it within the agreed timeframe. Instructors are not required to accommodate unexcused absences or those without prior communication.
