University Liberal Arts Curriculum
The University’s Liberal Arts Curriculum is composed of 15 core courses and a Focus Area. See description here.
Core Courses (See guidance for specific course options here):
- Classical Philosophy
- Modern Philosophy
- Philosophy elective course: Any PHIL course, preferred electives include PHIL 309 and PHIL 333
- Foundations in Theology I
- Foundations in Theology II
- Theology elective course: Any TRS course, preferred electives include TRS 335 and TRS 203B
- Rhetoric and Composition: ENG 101 (or 103 for non-native speakers). A grade of “C-” or higher is required to satisfy this requirement.
- Foundations of Mathematics, Statistics, or Quantitative Reasoning
- Foundations in Natural Science
- Explorations in Literature
- Explorations in Fine Arts
- Foundations Social Science
- Foundations in History or Political Theory
Language Requirement: This requirement can be fulfilled by any of the following, a) completing two intermediate level language courses, see below; b) demonstrating fluency at the intermediate level; or 3) completing the Foreign Language Substitution, if applicable.
- Intermediate Language I: A 103-level language course. A grade of “C-” or higher is required to advance to the 104-level
- Intermediate Language II: A 104-level language course.
Focus Area: The Focus Area requirement is fulfilled for Busch School students through a BSBA/BSA quantitative business concentration. A business student completes the BSBA/BSA quantitative business concentration through the required courses within the B.S.A. or B.S.B.A. degree requirements in the “Mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics” category, see below.
