DR 410 Drama in Education 1

This course offers an introduction to the philosophy, methodologies and effective practice of drama in education, a form of classroom learning that integrates creative drama, roleplaying, and script writing and performing with academic curriculum content objectives. The focus of this classroom drama is on deepening students' comprehension of texts and content, strengthening reading fluency, increasing student engagement in lessons, and enhancing their theatrical skills. Course participants will complete readings and written assignments based on the works of educational drama practitioners. They will also create photography/video projects that demonstrate the work in action. The course includes live online meetings in which students interact with the professor and one another, sharing scripts, videos, photos, and lesson plans.
