CSC 487 Introduction to Medical Image Computing

Medical image computing brings up computational and mathematical methods for quantitative analysis of medical images to identify patients at risk sooner and non-invasively, decide early preventive treatment, and reduce clinical costs. In this course, students get familiar with the concept of medical image computing. First, they get introduced to the common imaging modalities and different types of data. Next, they learn about pre-processing techniques to reduce non-discriminative variability between datasets and emphasize the important parts for further processing. Then, they gain knowledge about medical image analysis techniques to extract the meaningful information from raw data. At the end, they study classifiers for decision making. The concept of this course will be shown through several Python projects. Prerequisite: CSC 430 Python Programming Language, MATH 301 Linear Algebra
