Awarding Process
Financial Aid Notification and Disbursement
The Office of Student Financial Aid notifies students of their financial aid awards through an electronic award notification. Returning students receive this notification via their UT Permian Basin email address, while new students receive it at the home mailing address provided on their application.
The award notification outlines the types and amounts of financial aid offered, which may include a combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities. This collection of aid is referred to as the student’s financial aid package. The number and amount of awards are determined by:
- The availability of funds at the time the application is completed
- The results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for need-based aid
- The student’s academic level and enrollment status (e.g., number of credit hours)
Please note: The inclusion of an award in the notification does not guarantee disbursement. Students must meet all eligibility requirements, including:
- Completion of any additional program-specific applications (e.g., student loan applications)
- Enrollment in the required number of credit hours
- Satisfactory academic progress
Outside Scholarships and Over-Awards
Students receiving private scholarships or other external aid must notify the Office of Student Financial Aid as soon as possible. Failure to report all sources of assistance may result in an over-award, which could require a reduction in other aid or repayment of funds already disbursed. To avoid financial hardship, students should report all aid sources accurately and promptly.
Types of Financial Aid
UT Permian Basin participates in a variety of financial aid programs, which fall into four main categories:
- Grants: Need-based funds that do not require repayment
- Scholarships: Merit- or need-based awards that do not require repayment
- Loans: Borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest, typically after graduation
- Employment: Part-time, usually on-campus jobs that accommodate the student’s class schedule
Descriptions of specific aid programs are provided in the following sections. Please note that funding levels, eligibility criteria, and program names may change from year to year due to federal and state regulations.
