ECE 105 Health and Safety Issues in Early Childhood Education

Introduction to health and safety practices in early childhood education environments for children 6 weeks through 6 years. Students will learn to guide children's understanding of health and safety through developmentally appropriate practices. Recognizing/Reporting Child Abuse/Neglect required to pass.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify best practices and techniques that prevent or treat infection and injuries in the childcare setting for children of all abilities
2. Explain preparation and planning for emergency situations in the child care setting for children of all abilities
3. Identify elements of healthy childhood habits for children in inclusive settings
4. Describe the effects of child maltreatment and how to recognize and report child abuse
5. Explain developmentally appropriate practices to support children’s health and safety in childcare environments
