Student Government and Professional Organizations
A number of student organizations offer opportunities for students to participate in and act as liaisons to professional organizations. This list currently includes the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) and the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS). Student representatives also serve as liaisons at faculty meetings, on school committees, and on the Student Government Association.
Advising
All freshmen are advised by the University CACS Advisors for their Fall and Spring semesters. In the Spring of their first year, each student is assigned to the Staff Adviser and the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Architecture for advising. Normally, from this point forward, the students remain with their assigned advisers for the duration of their program.
Students are required to see the either the Staff Adviser or the Associate Dean at least once a semester for pre-registration for the next semester's classes. Students are encouraged to consult their peers, their faculty, their TAs, and the Student Services Coordinator regarding their academic program and status, career ambitions, internships, and other issues of concern. During the four weeks of University advising, students may make an appointment with either the Staff Adviser or the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Students are responsible for knowing the requirements of their specific programs and for keeping track of their progress in working toward their degrees. Students are to consult the University and ARPL website prior to making an appointment with their Architecture adviser.
