BUS 499A Decision-Making: Career Discernment IV
BUS 499A Career Discernment IV: Action, Evaluation, Reflection: is the fourth course in a four-part career development sequence for all Busch School undergraduate students offered both Fall and Spring semesters. Students evaluate and reflect on their professional experiences over the past four years and apply learnings and habits to their continuous improvement plans in the ultimate pursuit of service through work. Students, based on their progress in their Personal Development Plans over the past four years, choose their path of applying previous learnings. Students will choose from two pathway options during the first class- Pathway 1: is for students who do not have full time employment confirmed and/or feel they need extra support in their job search strategy and even career/ vocation discovery. Students revisit job search strategies in group career coaching, revisit their Personal Development Plans and work the plan. Students participate in recruiting-focused sessions, networking opportunities, and mock interviews to meet with alumni and employers. Pathway 2: is for students with employment/ graduate school secured post-graduation. Students meet to focus on professional habit building in the workplace- reflecting on their past internships/ experiences, applying learnings from in class and internships to their future roles, and hearing from alumni in group panels/ workshops about the transition to working full-time, first week on the job, salary negotiation, etc. Students solidify best practices/ habits to be a lifelong learner in the workplace and are given the opportunity to pursue additional skills and ways to continue to upskill while in the workplace. Students in both pathways hear from alumni relations and are brought into the alumni family/network using Cardinal Connect platform.
