CS 286 Enterprise Network Security

This course gives the students a real world understanding of enterprise network security systems and how these technologies can be used to enhance the protection of internal networks. It gives hands-on experience installing, configuring and managing advanced security systems. The course will utilize commercial firewalls, VPNs, cloud security solutions, security configuration guidance tools, and other tools to implement and monitor the effectiveness of the security solutions. Students will explore proven strategies for defending networks against unauthorized access, denial-of-service, the weaknesses of legacy firewall architecture, security processes, address translation, content filtering, spoofing, and other advanced issues. This course has a hands-on focus.

CS 189 and CS 284; or instructor consent

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Discuss the purpose and objectives of enterprise network security architecture

2. Install and configure enterprise network security devices

3. Discuss issues involved in implementing enterprise network security

4. Develop and implement common enterprise security requirements, policies, and procedures

5. Compare baseline and post resolution vulnerability and incident reports

6. Install and utilize various industry accepted security tools
